I am 12 weeks pregnant, of normal height and weight and have been continually losing weight since I became pregnant. I weigh less now than I did before I became pregnant. I have had 2 ultrasounds and dr. says baby is doing great and growing normally. I have lost approx. 18 lbs.

My question is ...... Is this health and can it be dangerous to the baby? I am really worried that this can affect the health of my baby. I have 2 healthy children age 10 and 4 and gained weight steadily through both of those pregnancy's. My first pregnancy I gained too much weight and my second pregnancy I gained the average 30 lbs.

I am hoping that every thing is okay and I have a full work up with my ob/gyn on Aug. 15th.

First off you didn't mention if you've been suffering morning sickness. As long as the doctor says that the baby is doing well and you're eating appropriately then you should be okay. My doc isn't worried at all and i've had the same thing happen earlier in this pregnancy. Don't stress over it unless the doc says something is wrong.

It is possible you are losing muscle weight. Since muscle weighs more than fat, and it's likely you may no longer be exercising due to pregnancy, it could be that. Your body attacks your muscles first when it needs something so it is important to eat regulary throughout the day. Ask your doctor about doing some muscle strengthening exercises. I imagine as your belly gets larger, you'll get more muscle in your legs, back, etc. Just keep eating, especially protein.

as long as the dr says you are fine don't worry. I lost over 30 lbs in the first 20 weeks of my frist pregnancy, but my son was fine.
