Basically people want to believe in something after death. Jesus was a normal man.
I think people believe him to be gods "son" or whatever just gives them more proof there there is something after death. Heaven and hell. I dont believe Jesus was a messiah or whatever. I think people dont question there faith because they dont want to be "dammed" to hell.
Gaahh "The Truth" Is sooooo right!!

Possibilities are endless.
We are accepting (not gulable - that is your definition) because humans are afraid of the unknown & what is to come. With everything we know we have no idea what is going to happen to us after we die...besides the whole ashes to ashes.
Hey - people need coping skills to be able to go through life with their head up & heart open. Everyone is different.
Religion, passions, hobbies, beliefs, careers, addictions...whatever. People choose whatever coping mechanism they feel fits them in that moment. Just because I look to religion for one moment doesn't mean my mind is closed enough that I don't acknowledge there are many things I can do here to help myself feel good about where I am at aside from that. But for some when faced with the the possibility of choosing unhealthy or unfit options to cope religion becomes a corner stone in the road.
It's personal - it's life-long evolving - it's the sky above the road to discovering ourselves.
If you face the sun the shadows will always fall behind you.

Much of religion is about fear, sometimes to assuage it, sometimes to encourage it. Fear of the unknown can be focused on death, yet also on life. Therefore there are many forms of religion, each to give a voice to the fears of its followers. Some happen to be more death affirming than others, hence more hysterical, superstitious and destructive. Some are more life affirming and can be more contemplative and disciplined.
Fear is a natural part of life and must be dealt with in some fashion. Some take comfort in the belief in an afterworldy paradise. Others seek to resolve the matter of fear while living in the present, through right-action and accepting life on its terms. In the end, everything is a choice.

Yeah I feel the same way.. I don't believe that Jesus was born from a virgin. It's just not scientifically possible unless they had the things we had today to make babies which I don't think they did lol. People are like, "IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN JESUS OR GO TO CHURCH, YOU DIE AND ROT IN HELL!" Like, wtf? I don't believe theres a heaven or hell. I've been taught by my mother that there are dimensions and we are in the third. I think there's an author who talks about these things called Sylvia Browne? Anyway yeah Jesus was an ordinary man just like all our dads. The bible was switched around throughout all the years just like the telephone game to get people to go to churc so that the church gets money and makes people believe they're going to hell if they don't. Those smart cookies know how to make lots of moolah.

The minute there is a realization that death--an ending--is real, humans are left with a near unanswerable question. They tire of struggling to answer that question themselves and begin listening to the packaged answers of many religions. There is a comfort in believing a "higher authority" and that authority is seldom challenged because there is comfort in not having to make up your own mind and little of the work needed for truly understanding.

Mark Shea : Of the Virgin !
August 3, 2007
Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and his name shall be called Emmanuel (which means, God with us).
Anybody remotely familiar with the Christian story knows that Jesus was born of a virgin. What is not so easy to hold on to these days is the answer to the question "Why?" That's because we have reduced sex to a plumbing problem and no longer see it as sacramental and significant; therefore we see in virginity only "no sex" rather than a sacramental significance too. Further, since we see in "no sex" the ultimate deprivation from the highest pleasure mortal flesh knows, we see only loss. That's why our culture hates virginity. And that's why our culture hates children. For children are virgins and we trundle them out of childhood and on into an early and promiscuous adolescence as fast as possible.
Jesus was born of one who was, in a famous phrase, "younger than sin."
Her virginity was not a loss to her.
It was a sign of total love for God.
A sign for us to read.

Well humans need something to look forward to when they die. Those who are poor or are physically handicap need to believe that in the 'next world' they will live well. If you take that away from them their sufferings will become even more. Like someone said humans need hope...and religion is only that. Some go to far and believe the rhetoric as well. All in all all religions are fake.

ALL religions are a panacea for the masses of people who cannot deal with the finality of death. Everyone needs some sort of belief system, be it Heaven/Hell, re-incarnation, the after-life or whatever you want to call, they need a spiritual drug to calm their paranoia. There is NO empirical data that anything happens to you after you die and most people just cannot accept this fact. The fact that you die and turn to dust. Period. No God, No Allah, Mohhamad, Buddha is gonna take you to some promised land. You are gonna die. Deal with it.

Christ was enlightened like the Buddha, and he saw that he was God.
You and I are God, too... Everyone is, but not everyone is aware of it.
People just took the teachings of Christ the wrong way, and interpreted his message in a literal manner. People decided to worship the image of Christ instead of living his teachings... Christianity is merely enlightened living.
Treat others well, exercise compassion, patience, and understanding... Please don't let yourself be fooled by the illusions that make Christ look like a bad guy!
One of the greatest enemies of Christianity are the people who call themselves Christians but live a life that contradicts that.
Take care.

Your false belief will not change the fact that God are Jesus are very real entities... And so is Satan and so are angels and fallen angels...... And if God was not real to you why should it matter to you one iota that other people believe in Gods existence..... For if I believe that something does not exist I would not waste one minute of my time attacking something that does not exist or caring about what other people believe...... So your total statement was a waste of time unless you really believe that there is a chance that God exist..................................
