2500 years ago, the Athenians had the right idea. Every year, 500 citizens where chosen by a lottery, to be the congress for a year. Our carrier politicans don't do any good, becasue they can't speak out, or make decisions, even if they want too.

That sounds strangely similar to our House of Representative.

We can certainly change the way votes are cast -- but we cannot change the fundamental structure without rewriting the Constitution.

However, the Constitution only requires "The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States" (Article I Section 2) and "Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State..." (14th Amendment).

Other than that, Congress can set it up so that Representatives can have any additional qualifications as required or impose term limits -- but Congress would never do that, because they're not going to reduce their own power.

Wow...honestly...what an interesting idea. Right now the American people are completed invested in insanity. We keep following the same process which inevitably gives us the same kinds of politicians in power.

We keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

How wild would that be if the House of Representatives was simply done in a lottery fashion.

I would love to see that!! No second term....you just serve your country for three years just like jury duty. You get all the perks, but you have none of the hidden agendas.

Sweet.

Career politicians were voted into office to represent not just 500 citizens, but the entire populous.

If people dont like what happens in congress they should do something about it, instead of just picketing and complaining. We have voices, we have rights.

Majority holds sway, so if you want your opinion heard, contact others who feel the same way, and together go to your congress man/woman.

Well I don't know about every year but I sure would like to see a limit to the number of times they can be reelected to office be it the Congress or the Senate. Like no more than three terms

Another thing I would like to see is some type of control put on Lobbyist.

Interesting concept, but frightening at the same time. Although most would probably treat it like jury duty and find a way out of it. Or worse yet, realize they are only there for a year and be worse than what we have now.

I think that would be a very dangerous plan. I'm sorry, but Mr. and Mrs. Jones are not as qualified for the Congress as Nancy Pelosi and Orrin Hatch.

The Youngsters during the 60's had higher education and more courage to do that.
Now a days, youngsters are uneducated zombies.

You just described 6 & half failed years of Dubya Rule.

Seriously, read it again...Our carrier politicians don't do any good, because they can't speak out, or make decisions, even if they want too.

No, he can't...DICK & Rove won't let him. What's he supposed to do? Think for himself? That's not what we pay him $400K for. We pay him to be a good listener and order-taker and he is excellent at that.
