Next friday is the state inspection of the daycare I work at. We were informed by the director that it is a state law in Pennsylvania that we are not allowed to leave the building during inspection and if we do we immediatly get terminated. Is this really a state law. If so, does the place of employment have to provide a lounge or something for staff. The staff as of right now only has a small wicker couch in the lobby, that's it.

When I said leave the center, I meant on our hour long lunch break!

I don't know the law in PA but wouldn't you be WORKING during the inspection? Why do you need a lounge?

In Texas I worked as a preschool teacher and the state inspectors watched us work...I would think it will be same for you..hope others can give you more info. Good luck.

The inspection shouldn't take maybe a couple of hours. If you're working, then you shouldn't be lounging. Maybe check with the Department of Health and Human Services in PA about what the law says. It may or may not be a law or it may just be a policy of the daycare where you work.

Yes it is true, but there is a bit more to it. I suggest you pack your lunch for that day. YOU MUST BE PAID FOR THAT HOUR. Make certain you are paid for it.
