I'm a Stephen King fan, but not really in the mood to read one of his books right now. Something with humor that is heartfelt might be good. I've been thinking a lot about his short story The Body (which was made into the movie Stand By Me). Something along the lines of that would be great. Thanks

Here's some suggestions. Look them up on amazon.com and read the descriptions to see if any strike your fancy. I love King, by the way.

Skinny Dip - Carl Hiaasen
Honeymoon - James Patterson
Haunted - Chuck Palahniuk
Heart Shaped Box - Joe Hill (Stephen King's son)

I agree with trying Carl Hiaasen, but my personal favorite is Lucky You.
Have you tried John Irving's books? I loved Cider House Rules, A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY, A Widow for One Year, and The Fourth Hand.

Both these writers flirt with the bizarre in a delicious way.

Try Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" series. The title character, Harry Dresden, is a wizard for hire in Chicago who hires himself out to help those in need. He helps the police, residents and various and sundry others in need in Chicago and other places. Humor and "real world fantasy" combine in these stories.
I really enjoy them. Can you tell?
