1 inch is exactly 2.54 cm, but it's usually approximated to 2.5 cm. I'll show you in both approx and unapprox. There are 100 cm in 1 m so therefor:
a) approx: 1m = 100 cm = 100/2.5 = 40 in
b) unapprox: 1m = 100 cm = 100/2.54 =39.37 in
Though the second answer is mathematically closer to the truth, the first one isn't false either, since you're a lot more likely to work with the approx value rather than the real one

How many of those people looked it up in the Internet? A foot is 30 cm. There are 100 cm in a meter, so that's like 3 feet and a third. A foot is 12 inches, so 12+12+12+4=40 in. So it's about 40 inches. No need to say, 39.127409273274388700776 and I don't know what's next.

One Meter is equal to exactly (3937/1200) of a Survey Foot. Qne twelfth of that would make it exactly 39.37 inches.
Unfortunately, a Survey Foot is not the only foot used in measurement, but if you are measuring land, that is what is used and is exact.
The other foot, the International Foot, is defined as exactly 0.3048 Meters. Divide twelve by that number to get a long, repeating decimal. One Meter = (0.0254^-1) Inches, exactly.
