Okay I'm 14 years old and I live with my mom [divorced parents] I've always LOOOOOVED computers, iPods, and anything that deals with technology. Recently I've been wanting a MacBook because I like how they work, but my mom wont let me get one because she said its too much privacy and that a 14 yr old doesnt need it at my age [privacy that is]. I told her that every 14 yr old needs some sort of privacy and she disagrees. Does anyone know honestly who has the point?

Im 14 and i have a laptop but in my case its required 4 my school. But the thing is when I wanted to get wireless (so i could go on the net in my room) for my house my dad didnt really care but my mom was totally against it. but she figured out that i needed it for school since some of my hw required internet so i got it.

So if your mom doesnt agree thats its good to have a personal comp. for hw then you can promise her you wont go to your room with it and only use it in the living rooms (my friends mom does that) so she can always have the option to look at your screen if she thinks your doing something wrong.

I agree with you that you need some sort of privacy, but I don't think it needs to be in the form of a computer- that is too much privacy and could lead to way too much trouble. I think your mom has the edge on this one (slightly) and she's doing a good job by not letting you do something potentially dangerous. Hope this helps~

I believe that everyone needs some sort of privacy... especially at your age... I dont see the link to the computer, but I wouldnt get my 14 year old kid a computer unless for some reason by then (he is only 2) they needed them for school. Your mom wants to know what you are doing on the internet... i think that is smart and i know for you its annoying, but my parents wouldnt let me go on the internet when i was your age... and although i wouldnt go that far, id be sure i could moniter what was going on...

I think a 14 yr old doesn't need her own computer. Sorry, no support here.

if you want privacy get a diary.

I'm 17 and I just got a MacBook. It's for University next year. They aren't cheap so start saving and make a contribution. Don't keep pestering your Mum. Write her a letter with all you points and ask her to keep it and read it again in a few months

Goodluck!

your mother. you don't really have total privacy from your mother until you move out. besides she wants to know you're safe online. it would be different if you're 18 but 14 is still a minor and anything you do, or anything that happens to you falls on her.

teenagers would say that you are right moms would say the mother is right...but ultimately it comes down to who has the money and i am assuming because you have to ask your mom for the computer that she has the money so unless she decides to change her mind it looks like you will have to wait for the laptop...sorry, but i hope this helps!!!

tell her it will be used for school... I don't get what it has to do with privacy.
