Meg & Dia are absolutely amazing. Listen to Monster, Cardigan Weather, and Tell Mary. Most of their songs are inspired by books they've read, and it's all really good.
You might also like Young Love. It's kind of alternative/electronic, but it has lots of rock influences as well. Discotech is a really good song.
Cute Is What We Aim For is good too. Listen to The Curse of Curves.
Other bands you might like: Paramore, Boys Like Girls, Self Against City, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and Funeral For A Friend.

There are so many undiscovered bands out there that are so much better than the sh*t they play on the rock radios... Just go out there and find it...

Interested in punk? I could send you plenty of songs as a sample of 70's and early 80's punk. And 60's garage rock/proto punk, and glam (New York Dolls/T.Rex not the infinitely less worthwhile hair metal of the late 70's and 80's).
