dude you dont take personal lifestyle into acount when u vote for the hall of fame. Michael Irvin was easily one of the best WRs of his time. He had the stats and the rings, he was MENT to be in the hall of fame

Mother Theresa and Gandhi will not be inducted into the hall of fame. The NFL hall of fame is about recognizing an individual's contribution to the NFL - not their individual contributions to society. Irvin is NOT the first hall of fame player busted for drugs and he will not be the last.
The Dallas Cowboys were the most consistently dominant team of the early to mid 90s. Irvin was a standout player on a team of great players and played his position as well as any WR could in his time and place.
If you live in a glass house - you shouldn't throw stones. Yep, "the playmaker" isn't perfect and he breaks laws... just like everybody else. Sure some laws are worse than others - so I hope that those that are dishing the slanderous remarks have never broke a worse or equal law than Irvin. Arguing if he made a significant contribution to the NFL is waste of time.

Smith and Aikman lobbied him in. Oh and Willie doesn't smoke Crack, he smokes Weed. Anyway the sick thing is that Irvin is in and Art Monk is STILL on the outside. Although if I were him I might request my name taken OFF the ballot in protest of Irvin being voted in first.
Oh and to the people who think they DON'T take personal life into account, give Irvin his Crack back. I agree with the first person that they aren't SUPPOSED to, but we all know they will. Out of fairness though this could be a question of how the REAL L.T. got in the Hall as well.

All of you do a simple task. Get a complete list of all players currently in the Hall of Fame. Go over every name. I guarantee you, you don't feel half of them should be there. Check everyone's stats....it get's worse. The Hall's original concept was to honor the best...now just playing a long, halfass career can get you in. Will Vinatieri be in the Hall? Whenever people talk about the Pats SuperBowl run, he's mentioned as the guy who won them all. Forget all the other guys who gave him the opportunity, he single leggedly won them all! That's the problem with the modern era, "greatness" is now defined as showin up for work. All american sports have been on a downward spiral for years, nobody notices?

I agree that Irvin as a person should not get in to the hall of fame. But, hine side being 20/20 you can't deny the numbers he put up. He tore it up against Buffalo in the 1st Superbowl. He made numerous pro bowls. So as a player , yeah he is Hall of Fame material, but he is also a piss poor role model

Irvin was the heart and soul of the cowboys in the 90's... so he got high, big deal. if he'd been on ur team, ud love him. he defined the WR position in the 90's: big, strong, physical, and hands like glue. say what ya want about off-field, but the h.o.f. voters are not supposed to take off-field issues into account when voting, they obviously do or else #88 wouldve been a first ballot h.o.f..... if ya dont let ppl in cuz they did drugs, youd have to kick out half the members. i bet ya love lawrence taylor dont ya?
edit:... joe t, ur the scum.... mike gave the most sincere, best delivered, most thought out speech of anyone tonight and he showed any reasonable person that he's much, much more than a doper. ur quick to label him yet youll never give him the credit he deserves. that makes you a boy and him a Man

I dont know about all his stats, but he made some awesome catches back in the day. Irvin, aikman, and smith were an allstar tree-o.
I have no problems with Irvin going to the hall of fame,
but when you talk about ol' willie, themz fightin' words.

He must have given some to the voters!!!!! That is the only reason I can think of that Irvin got into the hall of fame before Art Monk!!!!!!!!!!

Simple really. He never failed a drug test and NFL Hall of Fame voters are not supposed to consider a players personal life in making their decisions. Go figure.
So really all they should look at are his 3 super bowl rings. The way the NFL had to change rules because he changed the way receivers were playing the position. He was good at what he did.... and between you and me, i think he caught much better when he was on blow.

He should never have preceded Art Monk into the hall.
Dope boy only had 1 great season 1995. Monk was consistent throughout his career.
The only stat I could find of him among the greats was most consecutive games played. So he showed up for work, BIG DEAL.
