The titles are too humiliating.

Well, if you can get past the title, some of them are very informative. It should be noted that each have their own author and so the writing skills and knowledge base varies from person to person. I got one on kittens once and I thought it was one of the best resources I had ever seen on how to take care of them. I am open to them.

Yes I would.

But beware of the "Complete Idiot's" series. I read a book called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Life Science" which was a complete waste of paper and ink. The author clearly had no biology background, and the consultant on the book who did have a biology background clearly did not read the book. I have never seen a worse biology book, ever. It is only through extreme editorial incompetence that such a piece of ... um... bad writing could make it into print at all.

I heard weight loss for dummies was a very good book. It's not necessarily "for dummies" it just gives you good tips and advice on whatever your interested in.

I too have nothing but good to say about the ones I have bought. I even have one or two of "The Idiot's Guide to _____." As others have said, they really do cut through a lot of, uh, "stuff" and offer the nuts and bolts of the subject. Interestingly, they're not dumbed-down books - they just offer, usually in straightforward language, the nitty gritty of the subject.

I still cherish my Drawing for Dummies book. I must say it is a very good book :).

Don't judge a book by it's cover.
