What could be the factors behind today's rampant divorce?

Indeed I am concern the rate at which divorce takes place. I am afraid of it's effects to our societies.

It does effect our society in a negative way and will only continue to do so. I don't see a light at the end of this tunnel anytime soon.

Back when our grandparents and great-grandparents were growing up, when you go married, you were married. For better, for worse, through good and bad times. They never would have considered having an affair on their spouse because they loved them and cherished/valued what they had.

Today, too many people support extra-marital affairs, open marriage, threesomes, foursomes, moresomes, swinging, etc. We have become the destructors in the sanctity of marriage. I believe that too many couples say their vows, but don't really LISTEN to them or comprehend them.

Besides the abundant amount of affiars, we live in a society that when things get to hard, we run away. We leave the situation instead of having to face it head on. It's easier to deal with, when you don't have to deal with it. 100 years ago, couples didn't call it quits because the wife was overweight or the husband wouldn't help around the house...they were in it for the long haul.

It's sad to see the divorce rate and even more sad to know that marriage are lasting a shorter amount of time than ever these days. We need to learn a lesson from our older generations on how to sustain a marriage....before that generation is gone completely!!

Flesh seeking after flesh. It's that simple. Most people have a jacked up perception of marriage. Who said marriage should be hard? is what they think. People acquire the wrong spouse, never consulted God about anything, never made sure that their significant other's own lifestyle lined up with their own. Before I became saved, I used to get stories on top of stories of why men who had ladies were interested in me...most people don't have the true knowledge of how to pick a mate. They just don't have it. The more broken or single family homes you have the less instruction their will be cuz how can a single parent teach on something they obviously screwed up themselves? I knew a guy who had 2 kids with a woman who never finished high school, while he finished, was looking to goto college to provide better, and worked two jobs. do you think she understood his ambitions? Do you think she was able to even remotely keep up? What do you think happened? Everything was fine until the kids came along. So now what do you think his life is like now? A lot of people never get over the prior break-up so they go into a new one with open wounds and blinders on, looking for anything that will soothe them, not realizing they this new person may not be like person A but has an issued far worse than person A that will affect them seriously in the future. They can't see that far.

You're looking the wrong direction if you really want the answer. Everybody wants to hear that some factor other than their own selfishness and desire for instant gratification is the reason. People blame society as if "society" were a group of degenerates living on the other side of the mountain. The next time you want something so badly that you refuse to wait for it until you can afford it. ...... Ask yourself why. The divorce answer is right in there too.

The men go in for what they consider to be perfect which later turns out to be imperfect so in frustration they go in for divorce.And so are the women! But the honest truth is that this is the imperfect world(hell) where everything including our bodies are old, ugly and impure. Not only that but we are the embodiments of vicious traits the like of monkeys(they are the only animals to have all the vices).Presently, human beings are like walking corpses clothed in beautiful garments and one only gets to know of the enomity of the stench during marriage when the vices begin to come to the fore!
What do you expect to see , therefore, when a pair of old, dirty and impure 'shoes' so to speak gets married to one of the same kind? Your guess is as good as mine so left to me alone I wish you would not beat your head about this social malice because what is ongoing is the direct result of the changing times.
This is hell where all is impure from the food we eat, the air we breathe, the fire, and ether so it is natural that the society must be impure. After all the survival of the society depends by and large on the environment and the natural elements which are themselves impure and degraded.
No wonder all is not well with us and there is nothing anyone can do about it. In the scriptures we are told that there is time for everything and when the time comes there is nothing anybody can do about it.
This is the time.

Many years ago the belief was if she was good enough to sleep with then she was good enough to marry.

Now, men expect sex with no ties and women give it away. Less marriages occur- FWB, booty call, etc.

The marriages that do happen, if faced with rocky times (as happens), now have to deal with a whole society full of deadbeat men and women who will give it away to get with a man.

Its become acceptable to trade people in. Perhaps its the brainwashing of the masses to be consumers (ie better cars, better house, etc). The media has much to do with it but the personal resposibility lay with the individuals. Womens LIB? Ha- its hurt women who want tradition and families.


Finding someone with the same values and morals is most likely the key to make a marriage work.

The biggest factors are TV and easy to obtain. Its taking a huge toll onfamily morals and values in our society and theres no turn about on the horizon either. We are a victim of our society with the 2 wage earner families and modern technology

everyone has sex before marriage now. the statistics clearly say that those who do are at a much higher rate for divorce, adultery, etc. also lots of people get married cuz the guy got the girl pregnant

The biggest reason is that people have removed God from their lives. There is no spiritual basis for the marriage. That prevents a belief in a basic idea associated with marriage, the idea that marriage is forever, not just as long as it's fun.

Believe it or not, the basic reasons for divorce have not really changed over the years.

People just lack sufficient emotional maturity to work out their problems and issues. They lack the ability to compromise on anything.

It's not the specific ISSUE that is the problem, it's their inability to negotiate and compromise.
