I guess you are Palestinian. Or perhaps Lebanese. In either case there is nothing anyone could ever say to change the way you feel about Isreal. But regardless of the bitterness between your people and theirs, the Israelis have been staunch allies of the United States and it serves our country's best interests to help them. Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria, and Iran are all threats to Isreal and all violent enemies of the United States. If we can help them defeat them, they pose less of a risk to us. And there is always the hope that enough weapons will keep their enemies from attacking in the first place. Peace through superior fire power.

OK so your actual question is why we would continue to befriend a nation that killed 34 of our service members aboard the USS Liberty. Well I'm not sure if your family were on the ship or killed in some other conflict with Israel but we still see them as an ally. The US has a huge Jewish population which was largely discriminated against before World War 2. After the war when the truth of the concentration camps came out then everyone who had ever said a cross word to a Jew felt like the biggest piece of crap on the planet. It was a collective shame that caused them to support the formation of Israel. The US Jewish population can now effectively lobby congress to maintain that support and no one in congress would want to vote against it because of the lingering holocaust guilt.
That and Israel draws fire that would otherwise come our way.
I'm not saying I like their tactics but "the enemy of my enemy......"

Israel is the only example of stability in an area of the world rife with theocratic government sponsored barbarism. The jets, tanks, weapons we supply are the duty of a nation that cares about one of its most staunch allies in the midst of such a hornet's nest. Re-examine exactly what it is that you think makes you American...and I'm not talking about a document or a piece of paper proclaiming it to be so. But what exactly about this country makes you choose to stay?

this administration advocates the escalation of violence in the middle east; asks America to "sacrifice" more (death, injury); and uses aggression, and force in the president's "war on terrorism": it appears the bush administration has little concern for humanity, diplomacy, or fairness.
