If you have Microsoft XP Professional, go to your net work places option. There will be an option that says set up wireless net work.

Once you get to this point, it is pretty much step by step. You then have to save that information to a jump drive, and insert that jump drive into every computer you want on the net work. The step by step guide tells you how to do this.

Make sure you encrypt your wireless router! You don't want the neighbors stealing your internet! Look up your router model number online, enter the ip address into the bar on the top of your browser, then set a password.

Good luck.

Hey Redsoxer, grow up man.

You should ahve a wireless router/modem nearby if your can get wireless on a laptop but it shouldnt have anything to do with your laptop. This is how the system (usally) works.
Your modem plugs into the wall and gets the internet which then goes to a router which brodcasts a signal. Your laptop picks up on it and your pc should be able to as well. You need a wireless adapter for your pc. If you have XP then go to control panel>network connections and on the side bar you should be able to find what your looking for. The set up differs from router to router.

I have my wireless Internet going direct to my modem that is bridged to the wireless router with no hard wire at all to any computer, bottom line you don't need to be hooked up to the computer unless you are setting up.

You need to get the wireless program to a scan for it. But if you right click wireless icon, there should be a menu for setting up wireless - the main rpob you may have is your firewall - you may have to disable it (also, mine will not connect up on battery power - has to be running on mains!)

you need to run the internet that is currently hooked up to your desktop through a wireless router. then your laptop should be able to pick up a signal anywhere in the house to connect to the internet.

maximum routers contain important setup guides. i'll propose Linksys for this. a million) Plug your cyber web connection into your on the spot router. 2) Configure your router (setup instruction manual) 3) installation on the spot adapter on your laptop. 4) Configure your laptop.
