Hi,
-4.....-3
---.x.----- =
.5.......8
12
---- which reduces to
40
3
--- <== answer
10
Remember you can also reduce fractions by reducing a number in the numerator with a number in the denominator. In this case we can divide 4 and 8 both by 4.
-4.....-3
---.x.----- =
.5.......8
-1.....-3........3
---.x.----- = ---- <== same answer as the other way
.5.......2.......10
I hope this helps!! :-)

When you are multiplying fractions, you are just multiplying across. It is not like with addition and subtraction where you have to find a common denominator.
(-4/5) * (-3/8) = (-4*-3)/(5*8) = 12/40
your answer is 12/40.. but you must simplify. What I like doing to simplify is to prime factor the numerator and demoninator.
so 12 is equal to 2 * 2 * 3 ( or the bottom most 'branches' )
and 40 is equal to 2 * 2 * 2 * 5 (again, the bottom most 'branches')
so we can rewrite 12/40.. into
2 * 2 * 3/2 * 2 * 2 * 5 or (2)(2)(3)/(2)(2)(2)(5)
Now all you have to do is 'cross-out' the numbers that are present on the top and bottom.. (remember, 2/2 is 1).
So there are two 2's on top, and three 2's on the bottom. But you can only cross out two on top and two on bottom. because there is NO other 2 on the top to compensate for the bottom 2.
Your left with 3 / (2*5). So your answer is 3/10.

any negative fraction is constituted as a whole negative, which is easier to see if you look at it in decimal form. -4/5ths for example, is the same as -0.8. Negatives times negatives produces positives.
3/8ths is the same as 3x0.125 = 0.375 x 0.8. In fraction form, this looks like
4x3 / 5x8 = 12/40. Reduced is 6/20, reduced is 3/10.
