Well, since metal detectors produce a primary electromagnetic field, which is then deflected by the secondary EM field generated by the primary one's influence on the target object, and only metal target objects can be used to create the secondary EM field, then yes, a soda can would show up on a metal detector.
However, since the soda can is only an outer casing, hollow on the inside, which contains roughly 10-20 grams of metal, the question of whether it triggers the metal detector's alarm is what you should ask.
I myself have been stopped in the airport a few times because of random metal objects that i forgot to take off, but recently i noticed that my keychain (which had about 50 grams worth of keys on it) failed to trigger the alarm.
My educated guess: Yes, a metal detector could identify the presence of your soda can, but it wouldn't perceive it as a threat

Metal detectors work by producing a primary electromagnetic (EM) field, and then measuring the deflection of the secondary EM field in the presence of a conductor that is close enough and of sufficient size.

These days soda cans are made of aluminum which is a good conductor, so yes, a metal detector could identify the can as a conductor. Metal detectors do not "see" but if the can was filled with a conductive substance such as salt water, copper, or gold, then there would be a stronger deflection of the secondary EM field.

Electromagnetics are an important tool for geophysicists to study the earth, but proper interpretation is complex.

If you are asking about airport-type metal detectors, yes they are definitely capable of detecting a soda can, but it depends on the threshold of sensitivity the operator has selected. Same thing goes for "treasure finder" type of metal detector, but you'd have to be fairly close to the can, say 20-30 cm.
