Ya'all really need to start over. Much of your religion is not intrinsic to the New Testament but, rather, a group of so-called priests who got together a few hundred years after Jesus died and decided they would pull a bunch of wacko ideas out of their backsides. The Council of Nicea being prime example. Who ever said those men had the right to do that? Nobody but themselves.

Good question. I've said before that if Jesus Christ were alive today he'd be astounded at what the religous right is doing. The problem is that the church doesn't study the teachings of Jesus Christ but rather a man-made rulebook that was written but a bunch of uptight slave owners, rapists, murderers and child-molesters. Instead of taking the Bible for a what it is, a set of metaphorical guidelines that virtually all of humanity could theoretically get behind, they've bastardized it to the point that they take from it what the will and ignore the rest. Its really a shame.

Before the council of Nicea, the story of jesus and the new testament, was extreemly contradictory, so the story had to be brought into line to be more single minded way of thinking, consequently certain texts were left out. The same situation existed prior to the writing of the King James editon. It was a way of of trying to bring together the various sects that were becoming off shoots of Christianity. it was actually good for Christians it helped to bring them closer together.

Considering that Christ taught that the old testament was not to be taken literally, the modern Christian Fundy has pretty much abandoned the basis of their beliefs.

It's OK. To me it's obvious that much modern US 'christianity' is just a haven for backward thinking folks who can't handle the modern world, and need an easy way to construct a world model in their mind, full of bogeymen and phony saints...

Agreed.

Organized Christianity has strayed too far from Christ's teachings to be taken seriously any longer.
The only faction remotely resembling what the church was supposed to stand for is the Orthodoxy.

I read my Bible, and live according to my conscience. Those are enough to tell me what is right and what is wrong in God's eyes.

EDIT:

So true. Jesus lived and died as a Jew. He followed every law of the Jewish faith. Paul of Tarsus combined the story of Jesus with the mythology of the Greeks and Romans to create a false faith.

Actually, I would say that the recent religous right movement and involvement in the political scene is a slap in the face to Jesus.

Jesus can handle anything out there. He knows what's going on and is taking care of the situations. I have all my confidence in Jesus.

The convinient Christians (as I now call them) act more like the religious leaders who prosecuted Jesus.

True Christians (they do exist) live their lives as best as they can and do their best to help others in need.

You'd probably get more play from your bait if you put it in the right pond.
