I recently purchased a Sony Ericsson K800i GSM phone in Dubai. My current carrier in the US is Verizon. Is there anyway to have it programmed for CDMA or do i definitely need to switch providers?

Thanks!

Verizon is a CDMA-only carrier and does not provide any systems compatible with GSM, altough Verizon does sell some hybrid CDMA/GSM phones for those who roam overseas.

If you're into GSM then you'd have to switch carriers for now - maybe in the future Verizon is hard pressed to offer a GSM network. In Brazil the largest CDMA carrier (Vivo) began operating a GSM network out of sheer pressure from consumers.

No. GSM phones won't work with Verizon. Verizon uses CDMA (Code Digital Multiple Access), so you will have to get another phone or switch providers.

No. Before you switch providers make sure there is coverage in your area.
