sometimes when something horrible happens, we get locked into that moment.it plays over and over in our minds and renders us inaffective to deal with it.
Tolle in no way suggests we ignore the situation or not take responsibility.but to take a step back and observe the situation from a neutral point.It is what it is ,now move forward.
move forward in the now.
it comes down to disciplining of the mind and all its chatter .
I dealt with an anxiety disorder for years /post traumatic stress for years to the point I was insane.my thoughts and feelings had a life of their own,and I was bounced back and forth continually incapable of taking any meaningfull action.
I began this program that uses Tolles ideas (amongst others)
and now years later I can say Im healed and have a much healthier outlook.
It isnt easy to break a bad habit but allowing negative imagary,thoughts and feelings run rampant is a bad habit and can be changed.I had to stop my thought,feeling process each time it started and force it to BE HERE NOW.focusing on the task at hand.somthing that helped me was id pray ,"God take away my stinking thinking and help me to be here now".but anything you can do to interupt the negative thought process and return yourself to the present will work and eventually you will be in control of the thought process.your mind will be clear and you will make effective choices.
you know the statement One day at a time? well sometimes it has to be one minute at a time.

He was writing down his thoughts, thoughts that came as a conclusion after a long period of rumination, thinking it out, of reflecting.
How does this apply to a doctor who accidentally killed a patient?
My first thought is to treat the matter like a military operation. Debrief. Write a report, discuss, discuss. Determine where had things gone wrong, change policies if need be. Plug up all the holes where you fell off. Debrief on everything that has either good or bad outcomes. Learn the lesson that was supposed to be learned.
Sadly, the medical cartel is not run this way, The excuse is busyness. Too many mistakes happen daily. The "cure" is the enemy. Are doctors enabling and perpetuating this turn of events where they have lost control in the act of healing? For that matter , do they feel like the healers they are or should be anymore?
Despite all the advances in medical science, the small things trip up the system so often it is scary.
I have seen strong men react badly to losing a patient. Change jobs or hospital etc. He can be a doctor somewhere else in a different department.
Analyze the circumstances why the mistake happened and if there is no change in the way things are run, then leave. Just go.

Well, if you think about it, if you never tried to change the situation, never judged it, never gave it the time of day for feeling, and everyone around you did likewise, then there would be no problem. Nobody would care, I mean, we all die eventually anyway. How does that doctor know that his patient wouldn't have gotten out of his care fine, just to be hit by a car when he left the hospital? You just have to walk the road, not run it, not short-cut it. Any day could be the best, worst, or last day of your life, so he'd never know. If you let it go, and just don't mind it, then it will pass easier, and it won't be there to mess you up forever. Humanly, that's barely possible, a mind can bring anything back, but it'd work out for us if it could. It isn't implying that this doctor is supposed to not care, it's saying that he shouldn't let it haunt him forever, to be responsible, take credit, and not try to change the situation and get out of it.
