Its the rapid motion of electron or its a form of energy. It could be color less just like water you won't see it but it will still have the property of burning some thing, so; ----it can be exist in any form--- but think about the substances which create that fire or what substance this is happening.

Depending on temperature, it's either gaseous or plasma. Low temp flames are simply rapid oxydation. But the sun doesn't oxydize anything.
