1 inch = 2.54 cm

Basically, 1 in = 2.54 cm. What this means is that an answer in cm will be 2.54 times smaller in inches, respectively an answer in inches will be 2.54 greater than in cm. Here we use cm, so i'm not quite used to working with inches, yet for most physics tasks (because, let's face it, that's where you get exercises with no two measuring units the same), as well as most everyday calculations (should we have something measured in inches) we aproximate 1 inch to be 2.5 cm. This isn't because we don't like exact results, but you just don't need them to be that precise most of the time

There are exactly 2.54 cm in an inch. That means an answer in centimeters will always be a bigger number than the answer in inches (so you multiply to get cm); and conversely an answer in inches will always be a smaller number (so you divide to get inches).

If the Internet is handy, I always use the calculator that's built into Google, to do the conversion for me. Try typing this (or any similar expression) into the google search box:

50 inches in cm

It works great!
