Move your A/C up to 82, that's is going to make a huge difference. I block off all the vents in the basement and on the main floor, forcing the air to the upstairs. Turn off you computers at night, don't use the clothes dryer to dry jeans, towels or any other heavy articles; air dry them instead and then fluff them in the dryer using no heat. Do not use your oven in the summer, use the microwave oven to heat and re-heat food. Turn off all unnecessary lights and if your freezer is empty or nearly empty, unplug it and transfer the stuff to your fridge freezer. We have done all these things in the summer and it has made a HUGE difference in our power consumption. In the winter, I set the thermostat @ 69, wear a sweater and only turn the heat up past that when we have company. We use a programmable thermostat, have it come on in the morning for 2 hours while we are getting ready for work, then it goes to 65 again, which is also our overnight temp. It comes on again late in the afternoon and shuts down @ 10:00PM - bed time. I keep the forced air vents in the bedrooms closed in the winter so the rooms stay cool and keep the doors closed. It will take you a while to adjust but the payoff will be less power usage. Hope these tips help.

turn off all power that you don't need. unplug things you aren't using like the coffee pot, toaster, game system, ect.

switch to low energy bulbs, they have these new ones in the stores that are great.

Turn off the AC when you are going to leave the house. Use natural light during the day, but make sure that it is a window that isn't facing the sun, that will make the room heat up more. If you use fans to help circulate the air that helps too. Making sure you have good seals around the windows and doors is a good idea. Make sure you don't leave stuff on when you leave a room, that just wastes energy. Running machines at night when it is naturally cooler is good. Line drying stuff like towels and blankets seems to work well. But I would never do that with my nice clothes, bras, and underwear. but that way it would cut down on some of it thought.

1. Only run the AC, when at home. Otherwise set it at a high temperature.
2. Add some fans to the rooms. Air circulation helps keep the house cooler, for longer.
3. Only use major appliances, after it gets dark, and before it gets light.
4. Only turn on lights, in rooms you are in.
5. Try to keep your entertainment center, or whatever you have that normally runs, on a power strip. Shut that strip off, instead of just hitting the power buttons on the equipment. Your equipment, usually still draws power, unless it is cut off at the source.

(why is this question in this category).

Depends on where you live. Do you own a house, how big is it. I have Duke Energy in NC, and last month my bill was under 40 bux. But like you I just moved in and didnt run the AC or have the tv and computer hooked up yet. So we are estimating this month it'll at least double.

Things you can do.. keep your air at one temp, dont keep going up or down. Get fans, we keep our temp at 78 and we have ceiling fans to help keep cool. Turn off lights. Unplug things you dont use, even if they arent running they still suck electricity. Make sure doors and windows are insulated and do not have cracks or areas that air can seep through. Use energy efficient appliances and bulbs.

Lana Saran wrap is the new condom... its cheap and for $3 you get A LOT of it. No I dont think you could even cut the jacket on a FMJ with a knife. You can however make a chuck and use a drill press with a TINY little drill bit and drill the very end of the FMJs to make Jacketed hollow points. Ive heard it done many a times but the biggest issues i also hear is it takes a very long time to do them all and the performance is shotty at best.

I have central air and my bill runs around $200. I don't know what part of the country you are in though. I turn my air off when no one is in the house, I quit using my clothes dryer and hang clothes on the line. Heavy drapes will insulate windows. weatherstripping around doors. And for me a pet door so I'm not opening the door all the time for my three cats.

1)Replace all of the light bulbs in the house with a lower wattage bulb.
2)Turn the water temp down a few degrees on the water heater.
3)Check the settings on the refrigerator so that things maybe aren't as cold.
4)Make sure outside lights aren't burning all night.
5)Make sure to change air filter every 30 days in a/c unit.
6)Make sure that all windows and doors are adequately sealed when closed.
