Why do we park in a drive way and drive on a park way? The world is a peculiar place.

Because there's a right way and wrong way of doing everything. With computers, you start off by switching the computer on and it diagnoses the operating system to make sure everything is OK. You have to press Start to get to the turn off/switch off options so that as it shuts down, the computer again checks and diagnoses that the operating system is all OK. I know it seems stupid pressing Start to finish, but it saved putting an extra button or icon somewhere. Now with Vista the problem is solved and is a more sensible way to turn off.

my guess is that when clicking "start" (it's just the windows logo in Vista) you can start a lot of different stuff. When 95 was first released, it truly was how you started working on your PC. The first thing you'd do is click start. Now, its importance has been downgraded. You can also press ctrl+alt+delete to shut down.

Thats an age-old question, one which Microsoft probably ended up asking themselves, so in Vista it's gone! Just a nice round blue 'Windows' button.

Because 'it's the "Start" of your Windows Experience.'

Pretty much quoted from gates in an interview. Can't remember when, but over 6 years ago. Think he was joking?

For the Vista, it's a Logo, BUT if you hover your mouse over it, a tooltip appears with the word we all miss - "Start".

you can exit by using CTRL+ALT+DEL and then choosing shutdown. Very intelligent question. You should put this on microsoft's website.
