I am so glad you were able to keep your sense of humor with becoming disabled last year.
What happens to allot of disabled people they get so depressed and feel useless and lose sight that they are still alive,
yea they have to do thing a little harder and a different way but at least they can still do it.
I am not disabled
( but don't ask my kids they always think their is something wrong with me )
But I help out my neighbor who is,
she has her up days and her down days,
I told her I will help her any time she needs me but she has to try to do some on her own I will be there to do it if she can't.
I nick named her Wheelie, she just laughs , I told her I was going to have a sign made to put on the back of her chair that said " Want to race ? " she said if I got it she would put it on her chair, we will find out, I order it and it should arrive any day now.

I was disabled three years ago. I filed for Social Security and am still waiting. Being disabled I was un able to provide for children and granchildren. And with no income I had to rely upon my family to even provide housing and utilities. Thank God my mother had a house trailer where I could live and I could pay her back somewhat by doing repairs at my own speed constantly fighting the pain and depression of knowing my body was unable to do what it has done for 54 yrs. So I went thyrough the days ,nights and wake up with that depression. I take medicine for the depression yet, it seems to help very little. I'm not feeling sorry for myself,. I'm just telling you how it is at the present time. Yes I have some bright days and am determined that this will not keep me down forever. I'm just trying to say that I may not be as cheerful as you like, but I'm working on it. So when you see someone disabled or even physically sound. You are most likely not familiar with their situation and what battles they fight every day. Lighten up and have a sense of humor is good advice but sometimes hard to hear when you feel like you are at the bottom of a well with no way out. I hope this wasn't depressing,it wasn't meant to be or to solicit sympathy. T4

Well I'm glad your humour got through, but aren't you being a bit judgemental?
Most disabled people I know have wonderful senses of humour, if we didn't , there'd be alot more of us in mental homes.
I find people with disabilities have a more wry sense of humour, sometimes sarcastic, generally very dry.
However again we disabled people attacking other disabled people and making wrong assumptions. I'm sure you haven't met every disabled person on the face of the earth, so why say all.
And after you've lived with your disability for longer and had some interesting experiences, you may have a change in your sense of humour as well.
Come back say , in 20 years and let us know if you feel the same way.

Not everyone has the same out look on disabilities. Some handle it quite well like you did, others are not so good at it. They feel they where cheated and why did this happen to me. God has his reasons why he does these things. Not everyone has faith. I was in a wheelchair for 7 months [ cause of my knees ] at first it was very hard adjusting to a lot of things, we had 6 steps leading down from the front door and I felt trapped.
I found out how to get out of the house with no help and visit my friends and go shopping and still do what I wanted without any help from others....
My hubby was proud of me that I did not allow the chair to hold me back from doing what I wanted to do...
Good luck to you and your future and keep on trucking.

I dont call posting a joke like this having a sense of humour, sorry, there are many things a person can see something humourous in, this is not one of them IMO. Disabled people are abused and exploited far too often, and I dont see it as source of humour

This is a joke.......A guy takes out a woman with no arms & no legs. They go to dinner, hear some music & then she says to him" I know where there's a tree. You can tie me up there & have your way with me." The guy thinks, What the hell, why not. When he brings her home, her father gives him $50.00 for showing his daughter a good time. He tells, the father, "I'm sorry sir, I can't take your money. I took advantage of your daughter. The father says, "Take it! At least you didn't leave her tied in the d*** tree!!!"

Well done to you on coping well with your situation.
I would imagine that alot of people with disabilites get fed up with some people's condesending and patronising attitudes towards them.
