Making excuses like low pay is no reason to have an attitude. YOU TOOK THE JOB!

I came across one young female hostess the other day who was very rude but maybe she was just having a bad day. It is frustrating when they are greeters. You want to say, "snap out of it."

I can't tell you how many hostesses of any age I've worked with who have attitudes like that. They get paid more than the servers, so they get that attitude that they're better in some way, even though they don't do the hard work. The worst part is that being a hostess is easy! I've done both, and even helped waitresses when I had time. And even when people I hated came in, I plastered that smile on my face and was cheerful. There's no excuse for a bad attitude, everyone should check it when they walk in the door to work.

I totally agree. A good hostess knows that most people when entering a restaurant (especially for the first time) are a little apprehensive. A good way to make the customers feel more at ease is to greet them with a smile and a "good afternoon or a good evening". It is also very important a goodbye on the way out and a thank you. How many times have you left a restaurant and the hostess is just standing there staring off into space or talking to another coworker without even acknowledging that you just spent a good amount of your hard earned money to pay her salary. The best restaurants don't overlook this important part of the experience but the majority do.

Because hostesses don't make CRAP and they are usually 16 or 17 because anyone 18 (and more mature) would be a waitress. They put up with a lot from angry customers and servers, so next time you go to a restaurant people watch for a little bit. Try to see it from the employee side. No hostess makes more than 8-10 bucks an hour unless it's an upscale place. And as for your server, they only make 2.13 an hour!
Now that's enough to give anyone an attitude

those are the bubble headed bimbos who cant wait tables because they cant remember any thing. The reason they are so snotty is because they are the lowest paid people in the whole place (even the busboys and dishwashers make more money) and they have to deal with every person who come thru the door (its a good thing they have a map of the tables because otherwise they would get lost seating you). Try to feel sorry for them they aren't to smart but the sure are cute.

I agree with you, the hostess(unless they are the manager or owner filling in) are the lowest on the totem pole, however if a waitress makes them angry they could not seat their section, so the hostess feel they have some power. I have worked in the restaurant business for about 15 yrs, front and back of the house and I never let my hostesses act that way, if they did they didn't work for us long.

Gives the airs of high society with thier noses so high. Just make sure your nose is higher and close your eyes real slow with a slight slow speach.

Anti-snots policy: NOBODY in the restaurant gets a tip if ANYBODY is snoty. (That corrects attitudes with the first round of customers).

MInimum wage position that requires few skills. They don't come from money, obviously, and are probably just saving up for their first tattoo or beer money.
