The egg.
By definition, the first Chicken had to come out of a Chicken Egg. If it wasn't a Chicken Egg, it wouldn't have contained a Chicken.
The egg may have been layed by a Proto-Chicken, which would make the egg a Proto-Chicken's egg (notice the use of the possessive " 's "), but the egg, itself HAD to be a Chicken Egg.

I'd say that what we know as a chicken evolved from some other animal and developed the ability to reproduce via eggs, so to answer your ultimate question the chicken came first.

It has to be the egg, because the first chicken (as we know it) would have had to have come from an egg

THE EGG
because there were dinosaur eggs and eggs of other creatures that had roamed the earth even before chickens existed.

Actually ,to be quite serious .......................according to the creation story the adult chicken has to have come first.
( Naturally , this may be a purely philosophical type of question , hence I guess we should wait for a lot more answers -B4 we chose the answer most appropriate to the questioner and the reading audience) naturally I m fence sitting.!!!

it's definitely the egg as dinosaurs ( and fish for that matter )laid eggs but were around millions of years before chickens, hens or any bird
