I would say your description answers your own question. The Axis Powers of Germany, Italy, and Japan took on the military might of the world and almost prevailed. Remarkable when you consider each of these countries is smaller than Texas.

Nazi Germany was the most powerful military force in the world from around 1938 through 1942. From 1943 on they were no longer that elite. So if you measure the term "superpower" by relative military strength for that 5-6 year period of time and not the entire WW2 era, then the answer would be yes.

The Grand Mufti Haj Amin Al Husseini - an significant arab chief and founding father of Palestinian nationalism spent the conflict years in Berlin as a customer of Himmler makingpropaganda for the Nazisand even recruited a muslim SS branch. The British below Lawrence of Arabia actual supported arab nationalism in the 1st international conflict while the Germans wer led by means of the Kaiser and not Hitler- this became as a manner to defeat the Ottoman Empire which had sided with Germany. The word Palestine is actual pronouced Falastin in arabic or Philistine. The Philistines weren't arabic yet from Greek Islands. The Romans basically renamed the country Palstine Syria while they defeated Judea simply by fact the country became formally popular. The Romans then renamed the country after the hebrews former enemies the Philistines as an illustration of contempt. The Arab invasion didn;t ensue until 800 years later.

Throughout history, countries have been trying to keep Germany down and divided. What do you expect a nation to do when it finally gets power after hundreds (maybe even thousands) of years being put down? They weren't at their peak in WW2 but they were right before WWI. And Germany would've won WW2 if it hadn't been for a lucky France being able to keep a secret when their military crashed for awhile...refusing to fight against the German invaders.

The term "superpower" had not been introduced yet. It really was used to describe nuclear powers that could influence the whole world. It required a certain level of military, political, and economic might.
I don't think Nazi Germany quite makes the cut as a superpower. Yes, they were a powerful force and enjoyed much conquest. But essentially their influence was restricted to Europe. They did not have the naval armada to project power, they did not possess distant colonies to expand their sphere of influence.

I'd say so. The Nazis conquered most of Europe, and it took the whole damned world to beat 'em back. Even then, the bastards might still have won if they hadn't had Mussolini's help!

In its day, it seemed to be; but the collation of nations and emergence of the U.S. as "the arsenal of democracy" proved it lacking.
