If you have a sewing machine, I would use a small, loose zigzag stitch because swimsuit fabric is stretchy. Sewing it with a straight stitch won't allow the fabric to give and it might shred the fabric or put pulls in it.

Your best bet is a serger which was made for that type of fabric. I've never used one and I understand they are tricky. Use scrap fabric to practice on.

If you have to sew by hand, use a straight stitch and sew small sections at a time starting at the waist/hip area. What I mean is, sew a straight line a little less than an inch long and tie off the thread. Start a new section, following the line of where you want the seam and tie it off also then continue down to the leg opening. This way, you will allow for some give in the fabric.

I wouldn't cut the shoulder seams. Fold them over and stitch them down tightly.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
