They got hit by Katrina, wouldn't that piss you off for a very long time?

As a Texan & an artist I was thinking: 'locals won't want me drawing or working here' when I visited New Orleans a few years ago before Katrina. I was warmly welcomed, traded my art for food (something I've NEVER been able to do here in Texas) and met a lot of people who were happy to see me doing what I loved.
I don't think people are assholes, per se, just by geography. I think it comes down to two things:
1. Personal demanor: No matter how nice you think you are, the natives could believe you're stand-offish, rude, conceited, or anything that you don't believe to be true about yourself. That could come down to point of view.
2. Your situation: Are you a bachelor, making yourself too free or available to the young girls, flirting or being a crude, loud man in the area? Have you ignored your neighbors or been rude to their children or spaces/boundries? Are you (enjoying your privacy) being inhospitable or far-off from the people around you?
Best of luck in Louisiana - if you're still full of dobuts, better grab some boxes & prepare to move home.

I was in NO two weekends ago and it was quite the pleasent experience. The people in the hotel, Jackson Square and all around the Quarter were as nice as could be. Maybe you are in a place that doesn't like outsiders, as you may be called. If you're not in a tourist area, you could be frowned at for a long time. No matter how long you live there, you will never be from there. Feels funny, doesn't it?

We are tired of the corrupt politicians and instead of fighting it head on we fight amongst ourselves with the killings, shootings, robberies, murders.
I see what he means, I live in the rural part of EBR parish and work in the Felicianas. People are scared to walk the streets. Just this a.m. (8/6) the news reported of this man that got mugged while doing his regular walk and still got shot dead. Customer service @ most of the business is shoddy.
One factor I think is we're abusing God's blessings. The weather here has not been extreme where one is hearing of people dying of heat strokes. And since we're blessed we don't see the need for God and things are going well we don't cry out to him. And we do all that we think we bold and crazy to do.
Another factor is

Honey, you want to know rude, mean spirited people, stop by New York, not to give them any bad publicity, but no one smiles, no one acknowledges each other, everyone is for themselves. I am sure Louisiana doesn't compare to New York and not the whole state is unpersonable, but Manhattan is a "B". God Bless.

Generalization. We are all about southern hospitality if you give us the chance, and we're not really keen on people who feel their way of life is better than ours. As a native Louisianian, we just like people to see our way of life, because if not, what are you doing here?
You don't come to a place like LA and expect to keep your traditions without embracing any of ours.
Also, I agree with Jin.

Part of the problem is adjusting to a new and different lifestyle. People in different parts of the country and world see things unlike yourself.
Make a few friends, it will turn around for you.

You shouldn't say, that about every person. Just don't give respect, to the people who disrespect back. Some people do deserve respect.

Move to a major city like Seattle, Los Angeles, or New York. New York City was rated to have the most friendliest people in the world last year I think.
