I'm thinking that genetics might be to blame because there's people that just look poor. It's not their clothes or surroundings, they just look somehow inferior. Why is this?

Maybe they cannot afford food for a healthy diet, or have money to waste having their hair done or buying Mac makeup...

If you really think genetics are the cause of poverty, you're insane.

Stress and unhappiness affects your looks. Barely being able to make a living or having some other big problem in your life is going to make you look more harsh, etc than someone who is able to be pampered or simply have time to relax occasionally during the day. Genetics can make you look unattractive but it has nothing to do with the amount of money you make. Society has a stereotype of how a poor person should look and we tend to look at them as that when often if we took a step back it would not really be that way.

If they're malnourished then what do you expect them to look like? Our bodies need constant nourishment in order to thrive and be healthy. Without proper nutrition, hair lacks shine and luster, skin is dull and lifeless, and energy is zero to null. Doh!
