Before the vote on the Agriculture spending bill for the next fiscal year, Republicans offered a nifty little motion to recommit so that illegal immigrants would not receive taxpayer funded government welfare. (My compliments to whoever thought that one up.)

Well, because a few of the Democrats can’t afford to have an ad in their next campaign saying he wanted to give illegal immigrants federal funds, Nancy Pelosi’s duct-taped majority sprung another leak. The motion to recommit, whose passage would scuttle the Democrats’ bill offering taxpayer benefits to illegal immigrants, was on the verge of passage, with 215 votes in favor and 213 votes opposed. Yet another ring was about to run around Pelosi and her bumbling leadership team.

Then it happened.
The presiding officer, the guy in the big chair with the gavel, was Democrat Congressman Michael McNulty, who would apparently make a compelling contestant on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, gaveled the vote closed – repeat

What in Gods name is going on? This is freaking 2007 and we're giving taxpayer benefits to non-taxpayers? This should be a no-brainer that is never even considered in congress and yet they WASTE time debating and voting on the obvious?

Maybe they have too much time on their hands? Perhaps if they have so much time, they can go do something more constructive like pick up litter, volunteer for habitat, or better yet, do a tour in Iraq so may they may get a clue as to who they help and who they hurt when they rail against the war effort. Gee but I guess though Iraq is only for the LAZY, POOR, and DUMB according to some democrats.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! What a bunch of unpatriotic, lazy, indifferent, selfish, unprincipled, unamerican, hopeless, lame, pathetic, spineless, unprioritized, disorganized, wimpy, purely political Rosie Odonnell moveon.org anti-war anti-military cowards! And liberals DARE say conservatives are giving this country away to MExico? What a bunch of fools and hypocrites! Gee at the very worst, we give them jobs and they trade with us more and it helps us both out. At the democrats very worst, we have a sign on the border that says COMPLETELY OPEN, COME GET BENEFITS and AMENSTY RIGHT NOW!!!

The computer system wasn't working properly. It wasn't working on Friday either. He thought the vote was closed and hit his gavel. Then some more votes came up. 100 republicans walked out. Then there was another vote so you know the rest. I watched it on CSPAN.

I guess you think the tactics used by the Republicans when they were in power were ok because they supported what you wanted. So if they misused their power, it was for our own good. The thing is, pay backs are hell. It seems to be the way of politics these days. Cheat or be cheated.

It was not an attempt, Pelosi and her fellow socialists did steal the friggin vote.

This is wrong and regardless of which side of the spectrum you are on you had darn well better wake up. Congress is run amok and are imposing their tyranny on we the people.

Not sure what your little favorite thing is, but it could be the next thing Congress slams the gavel on.

No, it was the same type of procedural violation that happens a few times every term.

And could have been immediately corrected by re-counting the vote, as was offered (and apparently was refused by the Republicans). You cannot "steal" a vote when you can just take the vote over again.

Also consider that the Republican sponsor of the change started his speech by asserting that his change had no legal or substantive effect on the bill -- which was not true. But that's beside the point.

Every Republican I've seen interviewed on TV (most of them appearing on Faux News) seemed more upset with the way other Democrats voted than with the procedural problems.

It doesnt surprise me that Dems want to steal a vote, nor that they want to give federal dollars to illegals. After all, Pelosi has a vineyard to run.....

isn't it sad that every thing done in the House of Representatives is all about deals and arm twisting instead of voting for something on its merit........
