People would find alternate methods of transportation, car pool, it would be good for the environment (less pollution) but at the same time it would be good for the big oil companies.

and it would probably get those ugly Hummers off the road once and for all!

It would provide a huge boost for the oil industry. Other industries would suffer. I doubt it would be a good thing for the country as a whole, so it would be best to reduce the taxes we put on oil so that it will be cheaper for the consumer.

The post above me is a bit outlandish just so people don't get too irrationally paranoid. Besides, 7.00 gas monday is pretty much outside the relm of possibility.

It would shut down about 25% of businesses, who could not afford the increased costs for fuel.

And it would cause about a 40% drop in employment, between the people who could not afford to get to work anymore, and the people who are laid off because their employers went out of business.

And it would cause at least a 50% increase in all costs of goods, because a good percentage of must consumer goods cost is the cost of transportation which just doubled. Meaning that even out of the 60% who didn't lose their jobs, most would now be unable to meet their budgets.
