The record high temperature for the state is 109 degrees Fahrenheit at Monticello in 1931 and the record low temperature was -2 degrees Fahrenheit at Tallahassee in 1899. All record high temperatures for most Florida cities were above 100 degrees.

The high humidity and the intensity of the sun causes the temp to feel hotter than it actually is. If the heat index is 106, in the sun it can be about 20 or 30 degrees hotter. The heat index is just what the temperature "feels like" by just combining the humidity and/or dew point with the actual air temp.I live on Long Island and the thermometer in my backyard sometimes shows 120 degrees (which is the highest it goes up to) on days where the air temp is only 85 degrees. The reason being because it's in the direct sunlight. According to the National Weather Service weather calculator on the site for their office in Taunton, MA, if the air temp is 112 degrees with the relative humidity in Florida, the heat index would be almost 160 degrees and it doesn't feel that hot in Florida. I've been there many times in July.
