If you are not planning to have children you can try an endometrial ablation-a very simple procedure that removes the lining of the uterus- some doctors are doing this in office now.
The success rate runs around 50% for no period, and another 40 get very light, short peroids. PMS and cramping will still happen at the usual time, but should be milder.

The Depo- Provera shot will (in some cases, but not all) stop your period. After getting my first shot, I only had two periods after that and have been period-free for the past year. You need to get the injection every 3 months, but if you do it on time (which is good BC sense anyway) you will not get your period. But there are other things that need to be considered before you go on the shot. I know of several people who ended up bleeding for a few months straight, others whom it took a while for them to not get it anymore, and then there's me. I started taking Depo for this main reason.

Oh, and it is healthy to not have a period. No release of egg, no lining that must grow, so therefore no period that needs to occur. Some people think of it as "cleaning you out". Too bad that on birth control, there is nothing to get rid of. Even the monthly "period" you get with a normal 21 day pill isn't a true period. Don't let them fool you.

no not really but when time comes your period will only last or 3-4 days and that is not a long time but everyone is different and if you just started it definitely will seem long but it will be over and you won't stress about it and try to remember when your period started because next month it will happen around the same day it started (example: if it started on august 2,2007 it will start on september 2,2007) hope this helps you with your problem

Yes, by lot of means. Contraceptive Pill if taken continuously can postpone a period. Losing ridiculous amounts of weight (not advised) lots of athletes don't have periods. The contraceptive injection stops a womans periods for three months at a time. The contraceptive implant also does so for a lot longer.

not totally but birth control helps regulate it..and mine is a lot lighter /less painful etc since i started
if you dont want to do that progesterone could help but that can get annoying due to having to count days etc

short of getting a hysterectomy it is not healthy to have it totally stop as our body needs to shed the excess left over from the eggs and stuff

There are some prescription drugs...If you take Seasonale (prescription) it can decrease your quantity of periods, so that you only get them 4x a year...Birth Control can also work, because it varies hormones...so you don't get your period as often.

If its already started or about to start, you can not stop it. You can make them lighter by taking birth control pills or you can make them more infrequent by taking Seasonale - a form of birth control.
