astroboy, do some more research.
The gold glove is awarded to the 3 best OUTFIELDERS in the league. They don't separate it by LF, CF and RF.

It doesn't make sense. Center field is considered the hardest of the 3 (not always true) and yet, though the distinction is made between the 3, whenever Gold Gloves comes up, no distinction is made. When people evaluate old timers, center fielders get the edge in comparisons, but all-time teams usually consist of 3 center fielders. The positions ARE unique enough that gold gloves should go to the 3 different positions. Dewey Evans and Dave Parker were right fielders who had amazing guns and shouldn't be ignored because they didn't play center.

For the first 10 years or so of the Gold Glove awards, the three outfield positions were each awarded a separate Gold Glove.
I'm not sure why they switched it to treating all outfield positions equally, but the reason why it's mostly centerfielders, and occasional rightfielders who win it is that they are the best fielders.
Centerfielders get more balls hit to them than rightfielders or leftfielders. Therefore, you want to put your best defensive outfielder in center. If a team's rightfielder were better than its centerfielder, they would probably move him to center.
A lot of the times when a non-CF has won the Gold Glove, his centerfield teammate has also won one (e.g. Ichiro & Cameron, Buhner & Griffey, Beltran & Cameron, Van Slyke & Bonds).

I think it's really more a case of a player who has the ability to win a gold glove as an outfielder being put into center field because of his talent than anything else. Take a look at the all-star voting too - voting is done for outfielders, not by position in the outfield, and very often you will get outfielders playing out of position as a result.

its only a coincidence. If some of the gold glove center fielders played right or left, they would probably win it there too. And slot of times the center fielders are the best all around fielders because the are considered the captains of the outfield. They also have to be faster to cover more ground then left and right.

Usually CF is your fastest and best outfielder, because he has to have a good arm and cover the most ground. So as long as Gold Gloves are given for OF, CFs will win a lot of them.

astroboyonacid what you smoking?! Maybe you can't read ...
Ichiro is an exception because he won his 2001-2006 gold gloves as a right fielder!
It is only in 2007 that he is playing CF full time.

The simpliest answer is they cover the most territory. That's the only reason I see. I've thought over this too. I agree with breaking it down. seems to be alot more fair
