We live in a rented house and have lived there for a year and a half. We had sky put in the month we moved there. About 6 months or so ago the company who built our houses started building more new houses directly behind us (very close, too close for my liking) anyway, we didnt know that these houses were going to be built behind us, let alone as close as they are. Yesterday when i got home from work hubby told me that sky wasnt working. I called sky and after going through various things he asked if we had any scaffolding near us...ARGHHHH they had, that day, built up higher and finally got the roof up....apparently thats now blocking out signal and we need to get the dish moved.....at a cost of £65!! I will not pay! But can i make the housing company pay? After all, i didnt ask them to build those houses there!
Any advice is more than welcome.

My neighbour had a similar problem with tree's and had to pay £65 to get his dish put on the roof. I guess the housing company could pay as a goodwill gesture, but legally it's your responsibility so it's up to you to pay !! :)

I think you should pay it to get your sky up and running again as you will still be paying your monthly subscription - then start appealing to the better nature of the builder to reimburse you. However, having dealt with builders in the past, I can only say you shouldn't be holding your breath. Once they've got your money, you're history and just a nuisance if you complain about anything. It's worth a try though, if you dont ask, you dont get. Make a point of saying that when the initial installation was done, the dish would have been originally put on a pole to avoid being blocked by the new property, so it will now require further adjustment through no fault of your own. Good luck.

The housing Company may pay for it to be moved however I think you will have to create a fuss.I know how you feel about houses been built behind you.People keep saying there is a shortage of housing yet where we live there continuously taking the land & seem to have trouble selling the houses.
Good Luck

i`m not sure if my answer could help u or not, but i know another idea instead of having a satellite dish
i`ve discovered a Website that provides a great program that installed on ur PC using the internet connection instead of buying a DISH
No extra hardware or Tv Card required and it also works anywhere in the world.
and u`ll pay $49.95 (one time payment),
Instead of paying about $65 per month to watch satellite TV channels
Which is really good
u can watch 3000+ satellite TV channels from all over the countries on ur computer without any hassle!!
i think this will help you a lot.
check its link if u want:
http://www.sat4pc.co.nr
hope it can help.

if they built the building in direct line of the dish you maybe able to come to an agreement on them splitting the cost with u or maybe they would move it for you but if it is not your property they built on they are not responsible for the cost

I hope to see a day within my lifetime when Channel 4 has its charter removed and is replaced with a channel that does what Channel 4 is actually supposed to do, i.e. provide quality broadcasting.

i can understand your problem but unfortunately you will have to pay to have the dish relocated
the only other solution would be to ask the builders would they contribute to this as the problem as has been caused by there building works
or you could relocate it yourself but you would need to purchase a sat meter from Amazon(£12.00)

The problem is yours to handle. You didn't ask for the houses to be built, and they didn't ask for you to install sky either.
If you want reception, then move the silly dish and pay for it.

You have no rights to the airspace over their lots, so basically you have no right to clear transmission space through that airspace. You will have to relocate the dish yourself. If you move, however, most companies will move your dish with you....

I actually agree with you...if they built a structure that impedes your ability to receive satalite service, then they should pay to move it.
Find out who the building superintent is...chances are he can probably have one of his guys to move it for you.
