I have a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, and the last few weeks, the AC seems less powerful that usual--doesn't seem to get as cold. What's wrong, what do I need to get done to it, and how much will it cost?

An automobile air conditioner should be recharged about every three years. If you feel your air conditioner is not as cool as new, it is the time to recharge it. If you do not recharge it in 5-6 years, you could totally lose your air conditioning or even damage the unit.

The cost to recharge your R-134a refrigerant depends on where you go for the service...it pays to shop around.
You might find the service could cost something like:
Air Conditioning Service: $29.99 (or higher)
+ $11 - $18 per can of refrigerant. (usually only 1-3 cans is required) but figure you'll need ALL three cans.

I'm surprised it has lasted this long.

It should have been recharged in 2003 and again in 2006.

Time to take it in and probably looking at about 100.00 for the evacuation - leak/dye test, and the recharge of R134A
