Why do I have A green plastic ball in my gas tank?

It's in my 1999 chevy blazer.

So the gas doesn't spill out if the vehicle rolls upside down.

It's a factory installed check valve to seal the fuel inside the tank in case the truck becomes overturned.

Ron is correct - it is a block for the gas to not leak out if it rolls over.
