Depends upon the item. If it costs $40 to ship and you want it badly enough you'll have to pay. Shipping charges are based upon weight, size, and distance. You can often opt for a cheaper shipping method if you're willing to wait longer for the item.

Well, how much is it going to cost if you bought it in the store? If even with paying for shipping it is still less, then it is worth it.

How bad is it really worth to you? I had a similar experience about a year ago. I needed a ton of dirt delivered to my home for an outside project. The delivery fee was more than the ton of dirt. I got the dirt and finished my project.
