The defendants have requested additional time to prepare for a case management conference but they have done it 6 days before and I think the deadline was 7 or 14 days before.

It depends on the rules of civil procedure in your state/country, and the local court rules -- the details vary.

But generally, even not showing up at all on the day of the conference will get them a delay -- it just may annoy the judge if they don't have a valid excuse.

Generally, it's in everyone's best interest to be polite and courteous (assuming the other side is also) and grant continuances and delays for reasonable cause. Bickering over one-day thresholds just makes the whole litigation process that more tense and contentious
