Hello Molly...
Your father is having acute tooth ache possibly with a cavity and super added infection. Since he is now having the pain constantly, the chances are that the infection has spread beyond.
This pain and inflammation can be also associated with a dental abscess, in which case it has to be drained.
Since he has crossed the Fourth decade, there can be chances of developing some secondary complications.
Take him to a dentist..as fast as you can.

You sir are an idiot.
If I were you I would not be on yahoo asking if I should take him to the ER or not.
If someone is in that much pain anyone with even a little common sense would realize that he needs to go to the hospital.
I don't understand some of these people who go on yahoo asking for medical advice. You have no sure way of knowing if the information you are being given is correct you ask a doctor for that type of thing. Your health should not be trifled with like this...

If your old enough to drive then drive him to the hospital if not call 911 and get an ambulance out there for him dont wait any longer. Sounds like he has an infection and he will need more than just pain pills

Yes. Take him to hospital. And when you can, get him to an oral surgeon.
I had something similar years ago, and it took a lot of doing to figure out what was wrong. Turned out to be Osteomylitis (bone infection) in the jaw. Very rare. Was cured, tho.

I would take him to a university ER where they will have a dentist or oral surgeon on call. You might also want to contact your family dentist to see if he will see your dad. Most dentist do work on Saturday and will work your father in if he is in that much pain, get the phone book and start calling until you find one that will see him.

You need to call a dentist and tell them it is an emergency. If it is a toothache, the hospital can't fix it. My Dad had a toothache like this once, too. He was able to find a dentist who would fix it right away.

I know everyone told you to get him to an ER, which you should do and I hope you have by now. Infections in the teeth can become serious and spread the the heart.

Get him to ER or emergency dentist. It could have infected the gum and became septic and if untreated it could poison his blood and ultimately make things far more serious!
