I found out recently I had some SS officers in my family that fled to Uruguay, Paraguay and Switzerland at the end of WW2. Would you have a tough time living with that knowledge? I'm ashamed of where I came from now.

Keep your chin up! You can't help what family you were born into. I know where you are coming from, though. My uncle traced our family line back to *gasp* Genghis Khan! While I'm not proud of that, I've managed to become pretty indifferent to it. I'm not going to persecute myself for the atrocities committed by others and neither should you.

If this helps at all, then from the perspective of a Jewish person, I'd say: you have NOTHING to feel ashamed of.

The very fact that you posted this question proves you are a kind and thoughtful person. The only thing that matters is how you lead your life, you are not responsible for what your relatives did, however evil it was.

If, however, the reassurances you get here don't help you and you still feel bad, then you could volunteer for a group that fosters dialogue between different religions; maybe taking a practical step will ease your unhappiness a bit.

But again: you sound like a sweet person, and YOU have NOTHING to feel ashamed of.

I don't know exactly how you feel, but you have no reason to be ashamed. It wasn't you or your parents.
We can not be held accountable for things beyond our control.
If it bothers you a lot, do some investigation. I heard that some of the Germans did not want to be Nazis. But it was do or die. Hitler said "You're Either With Me Or Against Me". Therefore some went along to prevent being ostracized or treated like the Jews. Haven't you ever watched the "Sound of Music" [story about real family]

Forget it , it's been over for many years. Now keep in mind that there are other countries where military service is mandatory, just be glad that you weren't around during that time period and didn't have to put up with all that

You did not have a choice in your blood line. But it sounds like you are a thinker and that is good.
Good for you it is not your fault.

Don't be silly. Why would anyone be pissed off with your ancestry. 90% of most Anglo-Americans now days have dissendants who wiped out the American Indians...should we blame them all? should they feel less than anyone else?

Don't be ashamed. You are not responsible for the "sins of your fathers."

What do past family members have to do with who you are? Life is life. I would imagine that we all have family members in our past who committed atrocities. :)
