I would suggest a couple of great yahoogroups, as they have free tutorials, and great friendly help within the group.
Try 4luvofbeads@yahoogroups.com , borntobead@yahoogroups.com , or beaddreamz@yahoogroups.com just say I sent ya! hope to see you there...there are tons of things to make, and lots of good folks to help you out, plus lots of photos of things made, so you can get inspired.

If you work with beads without a loom it is mostly not called weaving.
Here is a page with some patterns and examples:
http://www.beadwrangler.com/samplers/netting2/making_bead_netting_samples2.htm
You can also do simpler designs but I can not find them on the web.
Here is a page full of links:

Its like a chain link, a diamond is what you weave in the process the beads with the twine/thread. you place the beads on the open areas of the loop and a bead on the pass sections. The beads on the perfect/final analysis up as one column and the beads on the pass factors make the alternating column. Does that make experience? in case you draw out a gaggle of <><><><> and then placed O's the place your beads pass (all 4 areas of diamonds). perhaps XXXXX makes it extra handy for you. Do it in rows to make alternating columns.

Are you looking for something with a loom, or without? Your question's kind of vague. I've done loomwork, and it's pretty nce, although difficult to finish neatly. I've tried most of the hand stitches (peyote, brick, daisy chain) and for overall construction I prefer either the brick or a slightly modified daisy chain--peyote's too slow for me.

Yes, I have tried it and it was a lot of fun. I bought Mirrix's Loom and they are expensive but they last forever and it is a wonderful product to use.
