It depends greatly on the vehicle power to weight ratio, driving style and terrain, (hilly vs flat, city vs highway, zipping vs cruising)
Generally speaking, Hilly, City, zipping and lower power ratio will benefit from having the overdrive off, and you can save more than 15%.
Flat, Highway, high ratio and cruising will benefit from overdrive on, between 5 to 10%

Depending on the distance travelled, grade of surface, wind speed and direction, weight of vehicle and cargo, and driver's habits, you could be looking at saving 3-5 miles to the gallon with highway driving.

You only want to use your OD on the highway, never on hills and stuff, not only will you use more gas but your engine will labor, not good.Example it would be like you riding a ten speed up a hill in the wrong gear.
