How about a gift certificate to have his first pair of baby shoes bronzed? I got one of these for my shower from an Aunt that lives out of state, and it is my favorite thing from my shower. I just got my sons shoes done, and they are soooo cute. I don't think I would have thought to do this without the certificate, and I am very glad I did. The company did a wonderful job, and even made them into a nice display in a glass box hanging from an insivable (well almost) hook from the top. It is so unique!

My favorite gift idea for a baby shower is a diaper cake! It will be the talk of the baby shower and mom-to-be will remember it for years. You are not only giving very useful diapers, which baby can never have too many of, but you are adding atmosphere and celebration to the baby shower. Here's a diaper cake that has always reminded me of the beach!

Lots of other cakes here to choose from as well! Enjoy the baby shower!

I would get her a gift card to pick up those items that she did not even know she would need... there are a ton of things you just don't think of when you are doing the registry.

And, if you want a cute presentment of the gift, tie the card around a 'Womb Sounds' bear. I wish I had purchased one when my son was even younger, but I bought one when he was just over 2 months, and it lulls him immediately to sleep! (He is three months now). You can purchase these bears online (just search on 'Womb Sounds Bear') or Target for less than $20.00. I've included the link below.

And, to tie in the theme, you can look for a sailor hat for the bear. That would be adorable.

Get something for the mum-to-be. It should really be about her. Like a gift certificate for a pedicure since she probably can't touch her toes and your feet always hurt and are swollen when pregnant.

For baby get a beautiful silver, boxed, '1st curl/1st tooth' set or maybe a cute cot quilt and sheet set depending on what sex baby is (if she knows).
I ordered a 'birth bunny' from signature bears online for my best friends baby. The ears are big and floppy and on one you can write a special message and the other is preprinted for name, weight, height etc.. They are so cute and soft and a lovely keepsake.

Don't get clothes or things unless you know the sex and baby wears newborn stuff for such a short time so sometimes its just not worth it.

I would've LOVED a rocking chair or baby swing bouncer if you can afford it and can get others to share costs.

If it's not on her registry list, the best think I always loved and I always get for mothers is a baby wipe warmer and a pack of diapers. Most baby hate changing, not to mention that cold wipe on their bottom. Adding a pack of diapers only tops that gift off.

I agree that diapers are the best gift! You can never have enough of them!!!! One person at my shower gave me 2 packs of newborn, 2 packs of size 1 and 2 packs of size 2 and a few tubs of wipes, it was the best gift! Also gift cards are great because they can be used to buy the things you wanted but never got!

Something off her regisrty. if she's not registered. a really nice photo frame would be nice... a memory book, diapers are always needed.
Something else as as "extra" a spa gift card for mom or even to a restaurant that has take out service
Books- "what to expect the first year"... or "what to expect the todldler years" are great books... any of the Dr. Sears books are great too

Preferably something off her registry. If she didn't register, get practical items. A cute idea is filling a baby bath tub with items such as hooded towels, washcloths, baby wash, etc.

Anything other than clothes. Truthfully, what I wish I had gotten at mine was baby toys. Gift cards are also very nice.
