We have been here a little over two weeks and she does at least three loads a day...I have only been able to do four loads the entire time I've lived here...I think assigning laundry days will not only allow me to get all my lanudry done but also cut back on what is going to be a very high power/water bill.....

I want to do this nicely so it does not cause any tension between us.

I feel certainly since it is YOUR laundry then you should be doing only YOUR laundry. It is a personal choice if you feel you want to do someone elses laundry too but at the same time you should not feel obligated. I undersand you want to save on the power bill but at the same time I think it is very unfair to think someone should do your laundry for you. I have heard though that the fuller the load the more energy you save. Having smaller loads means washing more laundry and wasting alot of water. Waiting longer to do YOUR laundry will fill the washer up. I understand you may not have enough laundry to wait. I also feel that when someone decides to have a roommate that it is important that they do pull their weight and chip in. I not only think doing the laundry should be thrown into the mix but also sharing the other chores that need to be done. In order for all of the chores to get done by the both of you there really does have to be a plan. Assigning who does what is a excellent deal. Like you make supper this week or this day and then I will do this on these days. Switch it up also so that the both of you don't get bored doing the same things all of the time. This way there is no confusion and someone doesn't get stuck with cleaning up someone elses mess. Explain to this person that you too have friends that may come over and you want the house to look nice. This person needs to understand that sharing a house/apartment with someone means taking on responsibilities. It is a wonderful thing that the both of you can live together but if you lived alone wouldn't you have to get things done.

How about every other day like her laundry on Mon., Wensdays, Fridays and your laundry on Tues., Thursday, and Sat. and no laundry at all on Sundays. Or you could each do 1 - 2 loads per day. If you are sorta of friends she will understand this schedule and hopefully follow it and if she agrees to it print up a laundry day list and have it posted on the laundry room wall or in each of the bedrooms so you won't forget who's day it is and there is no fussing about it because you will eventually forget who's day it is and fight over it eventually.Tell her the only reason you brought this up was because you need to get your laundry done as well and you would also like to save on the water bill. I do at least 2 loads per day if not 3 or 4 and this is the best solution and even 4 loads sounds reasonable to do a day if you decided to go with the 1-2 loads per day for each of you.If you do that one person washed in the morning and one in the evening.

Put a nice little chart on the wall with the hours marked that you want.
