I am 24weeks pregnant and have started to find that after making love my lower abdomen goes very tight, as if the muscles have all contracted, and my baby bump is a lot firmer when pressed. This only last about 10mins, and is not uncomfortable.
Has anybody else ever experianced this, and do you know what causes it?
Thanks!

I found the same thing happening to me around that time too! I am now 39 weeks pregnant and it happens even more often - especially during sex...which is getting difficult to have by the way! I had consulted my dr about it, and he said not to worry - it was braxton hicks contractions and that they were onset by orgasms/sex. He said I needn't worry, unless I had more than 5 per hour or they became painful, because that could indicate preterm labor. I understand what you're saying about them not being uncomfortable, just tight...it does become an even weirder feeling when you get farther/bigger...and now when it happens to me, I have alot of pressure on my bladder - this is also normal. Good luck to you!

Hi there. Prostaglandins contained in semen could well be causing this. It is one of the reasons they suggest having sex as a way to kick labour off.
Don't worry that you'll induce an early labour from having sex though, unless you have other issues. Discuss it with your obstetrician or midwife at your next ante-natal visit.
Also, don't forget that your uterus will contract during an orgasm. Hey, good luck to you!

Not exactly sure, but what I do know is that vigorous sex can initiate contractions, so make sure you guys take it easy and slow as much as possible. If you don't already do it, maybe you can be on top so you can control the depth of penetration and the speed. Do only what's comfortable.

I don't think you have to worry, but check with your obgyn. Better safe than sorry.

Sound like braxton hicks. The sex is setting it off by the sounds of it. This happened to me, but then it got really bad braxton hicks from about 32+ weeks and i kept thinking i was in labour!

Yes you have caused some mild uterine contracting and that is normal. It is normally of no harm to the baby unless you have a history or miscarriage, weakened cervix or early labour. Otherwise you're fine.

I'm not expert, but I would say that's a natural response to make sure the baby's all locked up in place through the movements and weight shifts of making love.

You're going to have a lovely baby.
