We are looking for a safe reliable vehicle, primarily for my wife to cart our 2 kids around in and also for lugging her 2 horses off to events over summer. We live 20 mins from town, so any driving will generally be highway driving, or towing, with a limited amount of around town travel. I have read mixed reviews of these vehicles, and it seems you either have no problems or they are the bain of your life. I guess that while they are heavy on fuel this is par for the course for SUV's (we want something over 3lt anyway).
If they are services regularly does this reduce the amount of problems caused ?? or is this wishful thinking. It looks and rides like a bloody nice car and far exceeds a Nissan Terrano we also test drove that was $4K dearer. It does seem to be smoking from underneath beside the passenger door, but dealer assures us he will fix that. cheers

Personally I think the little Blazer is a great vehicle. I don't recall lots of issues with these units other than the regular problems. What I see here is that you are about to underpower what you need. The Blazer is not powerful enough to lug around a two stall horse trailer. It might be towed rated at the weight equivalent to what you are towing, but you will be underpowered and nearly at the set limit. So although it might be rated as okay to pull this amount of weight, you will be loading the motor, trans, and rear end so as to cause unnecessary wear inside all of the components. This will lead to breakdowns. If you need the towing capacity, move up to a half ton or three quarter ton to properly do what you need here. Good luck.

I own a 99' Blazer LX, and I love it. V6 vortec, and nothing but routine maint., have I ever had to perform. But I do agree with SWEET, that 16k is outrageous even for a LT, or XLT. The truck is 8 years old and I cant see it being in "new" condition. Check the blue, black and NADA values for the truck. I'm sure you can find the same from $3500-$7000.

I really hope you did not pay 16K for a 99 blazer. If you did, my answer to your question will not do you any good. I can buy 99 blazers for less than 7K. I just sold a 99 Suburban for 7600. and I have a 2000 Dodge Durango that is for sale for 6K.

16K? That seems a bit pricey, but I don't know where you live. I'd look on NADA website or Kelly Bluebook and see if you're being had. I had a 96 Blazer that was nothing but a money pit and got rid of it within two years...now, I'd never buy another Chevy of any kind...driving a Dakota and loving it...K ;o)

The oil could desire to be leaking from everywhere. you may desire to get under the truck and see the place this is dripping out. as quickly as you notice the place this is coming from, take it back to the mechanic who rebuilt it and tell him to restoration it. you probably did get a guaranty, i'm hoping? in case you be responsive to the place the oil is coming from he won't have the skill to BS you approximately it. Edit a million changing a gasket with a miles better priced one? If it replaced into put in staggering to start up with it would not be leaking. Edit 2 Oil won't leak from the chassis. this is dripping onto the chassis from someplace up above. Edit 3 gas air purifier won't shop your engine from damn. If the gadget shop shaved your heads or did something else to improve the compression ratio, you will be able to could desire to run with a miles better octane.
