Is this an older drive? Many older drives (from before about 2004) could not read both types of DVD formats: DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W). So if your drive is not capable of reading one of these formats, then the disc will be useless to you.

You may be able to find a firmware upgrade for your drive that will allow it to read both, but this is not a given. You will have to do some searching.
