I have just turned 14, in June. I have been playing soccer for about 9 years, or since I was 5. I play for my school, club, local region, southern regionals and my state. I have just been signed (well offered) to sign with my country soccer team. Which is absolutley HUGE, only the very very best players get selected to play for their country. I have always wanted to play for my country. But that means, I will miss out on heaps of school, and be oversea's (with my family members/member of course) but I will be away from home a lot aswell. I am trying to get really good grades so I can study to be a doctor, but if I play for country, then I won't be able too. Should I sign up with them?

Man that's awesome! You should be fully proud!! I'm proud and I don't even know you!

They wont let your grades go, you'll have tutors and stuff.

But no one can tell you what to do, but I suggest writing up a pros and cons list. Talk it over with your family, but don't let them make the final decision. It's your choice.

Good luck, let me know what you choose!!

Let me be the first to say congratulations. Now on to your question. I think playing for the country's soccer team is a tremendous oppurtunity for you. As you said, very few are selected to play - this must mean you are good. And at fourteen too! If you take this oppurtunity, you can still become a doctor later in life, if that's what you really want to do. Sure, you'll miss out on school and home and friends, and that's always a bummer. But who knows? A contract for professional soccer might change all that! You'll have to wait and see. I say give it a try, but that's just me. It's only you who can decide what to do. Good luck!

Well If you sign up with your country, I'm pretty sure they'd assign you tutors..They wouldn't have a team for 14 year olds, if they didn't assign tutors, They wouldn't want you to miss your schooling.

I would do it myself.
If they can take you then they would have to have some way to keep you in the school or distance education and that would be part of the laws of your country.
so enjoy this time in your life it looks good

its really up to you. If its something that you really want to do then go for it...im sure they will help you out with school and everything so you arent behind. and if you go for this, I bet it would really look good on college applications. they really like to see when people are involved in lots of things.!
Good luck!
