You truly get what you pay for. DON'T ever buy a 'refurbished' one.

Depends on the laptop.
If it's a MacBook Pro it may cost that, but it's only the initial price that hurts -- Macs keep their value very well, so even if you still had a G4 tower, you can easily get $ 500 for your old one. So if you go Mac, keep it, then sell when you want to ugrade yours, and you will never have to put much between.

For a normal PC laptop? Yea, a bit pricy unless it's got SPARC or unless your work buys one for you.

well, it depends what you want. a mac for that price isn't a bad deal, but you can get PC's for much less. In fact, you can get a decent one for under $1000 if you're willing to look. Check out www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and they usually have pretty good deals.

if you're looking for stability over price, though, go for the mac.

actually the price doesn't matter... what matters are the specs of the laptop, the insides of the laptop, the brand... in short the quality of the product... you'll get your money worth if you know how to choose the right product...
